A Song for Saturday - These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra

In keeping with the shoe theme at the Red Dress Club yesterday, this week's Song for Saturday is this fun, old song by Nancy Sinatra.

I find that this song is best enjoyed when cranked, preferably with girlfriends, but alone is okay too.  You must sing at the top of your lungs and you must be wearing a pair of killer boots to fully appreciate the music and the lyrics.

Are you ready boots?  Start walking!
fg doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo!fd

A Song for Saturday - Cool Change - Little River Band

My husband and I headed to the beach today.  We walked the boardwalk and had fish and chips on a restaurant patio.  Anywhere near the ocean is my favourite place to be and I often think of this song when I am there.  Happy Place.

Cool Change - Little River Band

If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear water
Lots of those friendly people
And they're showing me ways to go
And I never want to lose their inspiration
Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
And now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change
Well, I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales they are my brothers
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon, like a lover
Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change
I've never been romantic
And sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
But let me breathe the air, yeah
Let me breathe the air
[Instrumental Interlude]
If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear water
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon, like a lover
Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's hard for a cool
Cool, cool change
It's time, it's time, it's time
It's time, it's time, it's time
For a cool, cool change
Oooooh, I know it's time for a cool
Cool, cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
Well, I know, I know, I know, I know
That it's time for a cool change
Yes it is, yes it is, yes it is, yes it is
It's Time for a cool change

A Song for Saturday - Motherland - Natalie Merchant

A Song for Saturday on Sunday.  I have decided to share a song from my favourite artist and can't believe I haven't done so before now.  Her voice touches my soul and her lyrics are always thought provoking.  Just when you think you know what they mean, time and circumstance change your perspective to reveal new meaning.  She truly is a poet.

Where in hell can you go
Far from the things that you know
Far from the sprawl of concrete
That keeps crawling its way
About 1,000 miles a day?

Take one last look behind

Commit this to memory and mind
Don't miss this wasteland, this terrible place
When you leave
Keep your heart off your sleeve

Motherland cradle me

Close my eyes
Lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe
Lie with me
Stay beside me
Don't go, don't you go

O, my five & dime queen

Tell me what have you seen?
The lust and the avarice
The bottomless, the cavernous greed
Is that what you see?

Motherland cradle me

Close my eyes
Lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe
Lie with me
Stay beside me
Don't go

It's your happiness I want most of all

And for that I'd do anything at all, o mercy me!
If you want the best of it or the most of all
If there's anything I can do at all

Now come on shot gun bride

What makes me envy your life?
Faceless, nameless, innocent, blameless and free,
What's that like to be?

Motherland cradle me

Close my eyes
Lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe
Lie with me
Stay beside me
Don't go, don't you go

A Song for Saturday - Into the Mystic - Van Morrison

Today is my dear old friend's birthday.  We have known each other for over thirty years and to pick just one song for her was very difficult as there are many songs that evoke countless, wonderful memories from over the years.

This particular tune, though, reminds me of one very colourful night - a night of purple houses, yellow I-Rocs and brass trumpets.  Good times!

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the
mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming
home
And when that fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it

I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl...

A Song For Saturday - Regina Spektor Better

I have been sick for over three weeks now and I was looking for a song to make me feel "Better".
This one just seemed to fit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regina Spektor - Better
 If I kiss you where it's sore
If I kiss you where it's sore
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
Born like sisters to this world
In a town where blood ties are only blood
If you never say your name out loud to anyone
They can never ever call you by it
If I kiss you where it's sore
If I kiss you where it's sore
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
You're getting sadder, getting sadder, getting sadder, getting sadder
And I don't understand, and I don't understand
But if I kiss you where it's sore
If I kiss you where it's sore
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all
Anything at all
Will you feel anything at all
Anything at all
Will you feel anything at all
Anything at all...
A Song For Saturday - Serena Ryder sings Sing Sing
Serena Ryder - Sing Sing
I came across this song on You Tube and I liked it right away.  She has such a strong voice and I totally agree with the message - Sing like there's nobody listening!
You gotta sing sing sing sing sing out loud,
don't matter if you stay on track.
You gotta sing sing sing sing sing out loud,
don't you dare holding nothing back.
I've been around for long enough to know that
Everybody needs to sing
No matter if you're all alone or surrounded
By a thousand people with a thousand things.
You gotta sing sing sing sing sing out loud,
don't matter if you stay on track.
You gotta sing sing sing sing sing out loud,
don't you dare holding nothing back.
Don't you dare holding nothing...
Don't you dare holding nothing...
Don't you dare holding nothing back.
Don't you dare holding nothing...
Don't you dare holding nothing...
Don't you dare holding nothing back.
A Song For Saturday - Michael Buble Lost
Michael Bublé - "Lost"
  'Cause you are not alone
I'm always there with you
And we'll get lost together
Till the light comes pouring through
'Cause when you feel like you're done
And the darkness has won
Babe, you're not lost
When your worlds crashing down
And you can't bear the thought
I said, babe, you're not lost
I think we all need to be reminded of this from time to time.  Great song!
A Song For Saturday - Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill How Great Thou Art
How Great Thou Art
This performance moved me to tears.  Carrie Underwood sings her heart out and Vince Gill is amazing on guitar. <sigh>
A Song for Saturday - Dixie Chicks Everybody Knows
Dixie Chicks - Everybody Knows
I love the Chicks and I love the words to this song:
Tell me now if you came sneaking up behind
Would you know me and see behind the smile
I can change like colors on a wall
Hoping no one else will find what lies beneath it all
I think I hide it all so well...
And my favourite part:
Looking through the crowd
I search for something else
But every time I turn around
I run into myself
We are definitely our own worst enemy.
A Song For Saturday - Adele Someone Like You
Adele - Someone Like You
An old friend emailed this song to me a couple of days ago along with a suggestion that it was time to get together.
j You know how the time flies,
Only yesterday was the time of our lives,
We were born and raised in a summer haze,
Bound by the surprise of our glory days j
A Song For Saturday - Florence and The Machines The Dog Days are Over
It took a couple of times for my sister to suggest that I listen to this song before I actually did.  Our tastes in music are, shall we say, ... not the same.  Usually.  But sometimes we cross over and this is one of those times.  Florence is a crazy red head just like my sister and I really like this song...and my sister.
